Montreal Canadiens vs Toronto Maple Leafs

With a loss to Boston, the Toronto Maple Leafs are officially out of the playoff race, but look to play spoiler as the Montreal Canadiens head into town for their second last meeting of the season. The Habs are sitting in first place in the Eastern Conference with 98 points, one point above the Pittsburgh Penguins, and will be looking to solidify that lead. In the last ten games the Canadiens have gone 7-2-1, and is an outstanding 24-11-4 away from home, the best away record in the Eastern Conference.

The Leafs on the other hand, were trying for a quick run into the playoffs but fell short, going 6-4-0 in their last ten. For the third year in a row they have failed to make the playoffs, and the possibility of losing Sundin at the end of this season is a very real possibility. Fletcher got some picks at the trade deadline, but the Leafs don’t have much to pull from, from their prospect pool.

Ottawa lost it’s game against Boston today which means that the Canadiens only need one point in order to clinch the Northeast division for the first time in 15 years, way back when it was the Adams Division in 91-92. Not only would this give them the division title, but two points would also give give them their first 100 point season since the 1992-1993 season.
