Andrew ConboyFollowing the suspension that Andrew Conboy received after an on-ice attack against the University of Michigan Wolverines, Andrew Conboy has formally resigned from the his team at Michigan State.

Conboy was one of two players suspended for the incident after Anaheim Ducks prospect, Steve Kampfer, was attacked and hit in the neck leaving him with a sprained neck.

Corey Tropp, the other player involved, is still enrolled with the team.

Conboy has played 21 games this season with Michigan State University notching 3 Goals and 2 Assists, with a team leading 76 Penalty Minutes. The 6′4″, 200lb Left-Winger was drafted #142 overall in the fifth round by the Montreal Canadiens.

I suspect that Conboy will be looking to either sign a pro contract, or a PTO Contract in another league.

It was sad day in Florida yesterday as the Montreal Canadiens lost against the Tampa Bay Lightning in a game full of chances, unfortunately the Canadiens couldn’t take advantage of any of them. Heading into the second period we had a 2-1 lead, but the Lightning took that away quick with a 5-3 final.

Goals came from Maxim Lapierre, and Alex Kovalev in the first, with Guillaume Latendresse scoring midway through the third period, but we just couldn’t finish the comeback.

The Powerplay was again disappointing and needs to be improved indefinitely. The Canadiens need a consistent point producer to get them out of this funk, it’s retarded that we have to RELY on our third and fourth lines for points some nights.

Carey Price hasn’t seemed to find his comfort zone quite yet after returning from an ankle injury and had an uncharacteristic .791 save percentage last night.

Our next game is Thursday against the Atlanta Thrashers, let’s just hope that game doesn’t go down the shitter.

Chris ProngerRumor has it that the Anaheim Ducks might be interested in moving Chris Pronger if the right offer were to present itself. Could this be that big opportunity that we have been waiting for to take advantage of? Chris Pronger is currently signed until the end of the 2010-2011 season for 6.25 million dollars a season. He has 8 Goals and 21 Assists this season playing an integral role on the Ducks defense.

Could you imagine the impact that this would have to the Montreal Canadiens? A blue line of Mike Komisarek and Chris Pronger, with Andrei Markov and Roman Hamrlik on the second pairing would be absolutely scary. Teams like the Bruins and Flyers wouldn’t have a chance about that. Not only would this have a huge impact but it’s definitely possible.

I was speaking about this with a friend and a trade package including Andrei Kostitsyn, Francis Bouillon, and either Chris Higgins or a 1st Round Pick would be exactly what we would have to give up to get him, and that to me is a pretty good deal. We might lose some scoring with Kostitsyn and Higgins gone, but we gain a top 2 Defenseman, and the opportunity to give guys like Max Pacioretty, Kyle Chipchura, and Matt D’Agostini a roster slot.

What are your thoughts?

Andrew ConboyConboy, and teammate Corey Tropp, were suspended today for the remainder of the regular season and at least two playoff games after an on-ice incident against rival team University of Michigan Wolverines.

Tropp was his into the boards by Wolverines Defenseman Steve Kampfer. Conboy then proceeded to tackle Kampfer from behind and while he was down, Tropp hit Kampfer in the neck with his stick. Kampfer was taken off the ice in a neck brace and was diagnosed with a sprained neck and no concussion. The full story is here.

It’s truly is sad to see things like this and you can only hope that these guys can get a check on their emotions before something even more serious occurs.
