MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced today that left winger Gregory Stewart has been assigned to the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs for conditioning purposes. Stewart will join the Bulldogs today in Winnipeg for the first of a 2-game series against the Manitoba Moose on Friday, November 20.

Stewart, 23, was the Canadiens’ seventh pick (eighth round, 246th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’02’’, 197 lbs forward was held pointless in five games with the Canadiens this season. He also recorded four shots on goal and served 11 penalty minutes. In 26 NHL career games he registered one point (0-1-1), recorded 22 shots on goal and 48 penalty minutes.

Stewart recorded 34 points (17-17-34) in 120 games with the Bulldogs in 2007-08 and 2008-09. He added 307 penalty minutes, while posting an even plus/minus differential.

Sorry for the lack and timing of updates folks, work has been crazy so my usual updates during that time have been non-existent.

Gregory Stewart and Kyle Chipchura were sent down to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday.

Stewart ended his Canadiens run playing in 3 games notching just 1 Assist with no Penalty minutes.

Chipchura played 8 games with the Canadiens and had 2 Assists and 5 Penalty minutes.

Overall, I think that Stewart played a good game, he was excellent against the boards and made good plays in the Offensive zone which lead to his Assist on Matt D’Agostini’s goal. Chipchura seems to be getting passed in the depth chart a little bit, but he still has some untapped potential I think.

Greg StewartStewarts back! I remember Stewart’s first NHL game. It was the last game between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs last season and I can honestly say that he left a lasting impression. He may not be a pure scorer, but he made chances and opportunities for himself and even fought Bryan McCabe.

Greg Stewart has played 40 games with the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs this season notching 7 Goals and 8 Assists with 131 Penalty Minutes. Their is absolutely no one else I would rather have in the lineup to replace the ailing Georges Laraque then 6′2″, 200lb Greg Stewart.

No news on when he will play, if even at all.

Greg StewartIt’s only fitting that after that stellar game against Toronto that Greg Stewart stay with the Habs through the playoffs, and in my opinion he deserves it. He impressed a lot of people in that game, including myself, he seems to have good hockey sense, and knows where to be on the ice at any given moment. Mind you he wasn’t facing high calibre team like the Pens, but it doesn’t matter, he did the job.

He may not get to play any games, but the experience he’s going to get by practicing and travelling with the team during the playoffs is going to help him that much more. Besides, if someone like Begin, or Kostopoulos gets hurt, we have a true enforcer who can take his place.

In Stewart’s first career NHL game he managed at least four scoring chances, and made some decent passes to setup some almost goals. Not the mention he fought McCabe and really held is own. It’s nice to have a Lefty fighter on the team that’s for sure.

The Montreal Canadiens have ended what I would call just about a perfect season, with a win over the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at home. This was another one of those games where we didn’t have to rely solely on our first line which is extremely important these days. Higgins potted two to give him his 26th, and 27th on the year, while Streit scored the third for a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Price is hot, and when I say hot, I mean that he’s not allowed more than one goal in his last three starts, going 11-3-0 with a 2.20 goals against average since taking over the starter position. Price has been incredible and is going to take us very far in the playoffs.

Andrei Kostitstyn coming around the net on Stajan. The three stars in the game might have been Higgins(1), Price(2), and Streit(3), but the really star of that game was Greg Stewart. It may have been his first NHL game, but he played like he was a veteran. I am so impressed with him that I would like to see him stay on the team for the playoffs because he brings an amazing amount of talent to the table. He had at least 5 scoring chances and almost setup a few goals, even had fought McCabe at the end, and he put up one hell of a fight.

This win gives the Canadiens 104 points on the season, and the sole lead of the top spot of the Eastern Conference. They’ve also clinched the scoring title with the three goals they’ve added to their repertoire tonight. If Philadelphia can somehow beat the Penguins tomorrow afternoon then we will finish the regular season in first place.

It appears that the Montreal Canadiens will meet Boston in the first round of the playoffs, this is like an offering from the gods. Our last meeting was close, but I do believe that if the Habs don’t underestimate the Bruins, that we will have an east first round.

One day after his NHL debut, D’Agostini is heading back to Hamilton, and will rejoin the Bulldogs tomorrow. He may not have had any points but his display of obvious skill and improvement far outweighs anything he could have done. D’Agostini will most likely find a permanent position in the Montreal Canadiens next season.

With Dags heading back down to Hamilton you really have to wonder who will be with the Habs during the playoff. Carbonneau said that he was going to call up 1 forward, 1 defense, and 1 goalie to be with the Habs this season. My only guess as to who this might be is Chipchura, as he’s already played a few games with the Habs this year, and really deserves to enjoy this with the rest of the team.

In the meantime it seems that Greg Stewart will get a game in as well as he takes D’Agostini’s spot when the team plays the Toronto Maple Leafs for the final game of the season.

Montreal CanadiensAs per the official Montreal Canadiens site, Matt D’Agostini and Gregory Stewart have been recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs, and will be practicing with the Habs tomorrow at the Bell Centre. D’Agostini has 47 points in 70 games with the Bulldogs this season, and racking up 32 penalty minutes.

Stewart only has 17 points in 69 games this season, but has amassed a team leading 137 penalty minutes, with a -8.

Both players will most likely play in at least one of the next two games, with the latter (Stewart), most likely playing a very tough role, that we’re missing with Komisarek out of the line up. This will be the first trip to Montreal for both youngsters, who will be looking to make a good impression.
