The Montreal Canadiens have ended what I would call just about a perfect season, with a win over the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at home. This was another one of those games where we didn’t have to rely solely on our first line which is extremely important these days. Higgins potted two to give him his 26th, and 27th on the year, while Streit scored the third for a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Price is hot, and when I say hot, I mean that he’s not allowed more than one goal in his last three starts, going 11-3-0 with a 2.20 goals against average since taking over the starter position. Price has been incredible and is going to take us very far in the playoffs.
The three stars in the game might have been Higgins(1), Price(2), and Streit(3), but the really star of that game was Greg Stewart. It may have been his first NHL game, but he played like he was a veteran. I am so impressed with him that I would like to see him stay on the team for the playoffs because he brings an amazing amount of talent to the table. He had at least 5 scoring chances and almost setup a few goals, even had fought McCabe at the end, and he put up one hell of a fight.
This win gives the Canadiens 104 points on the season, and the sole lead of the top spot of the Eastern Conference. They’ve also clinched the scoring title with the three goals they’ve added to their repertoire tonight. If Philadelphia can somehow beat the Penguins tomorrow afternoon then we will finish the regular season in first place.
It appears that the Montreal Canadiens will meet Boston in the first round of the playoffs, this is like an offering from the gods. Our last meeting was close, but I do believe that if the Habs don’t underestimate the Bruins, that we will have an east first round.
